New Branding and Diverse Conceptual Spaces: The Evolution of "Tsiskvili" from Its Foundation to Today
"Tsiskvili" - a place that offers you the opportunity to experience Georgian cuisine, hospitality, choreography, folklore, architecture, and history all at once. Thanks to its unique concept, it has become one of the favorite spaces for Georgians, and a leading must-see destination for foreigners.
The traditional Georgian restaurant chain "Tsiskvili" boasts a 22-year history of development. Over the years, its team has introduced numerous innovations in the restaurant industry, delighting customers with diverse and conceptually rich spaces. Today, "Tsiskvili" is represented by 7 restaurants and two markets located in Tbilisi and its surroundings. From July, another new space - "Tsiskvili Terrace" will be added. However, the news does not end there - recently, "Tsiskvili Group" unveiled a renewed branding.
What was the path of "Tsiskvili" from the opening of the first restaurant to the present day? What makes it unique? Why was there a need for rebranding? We addressed these and other questions to Giorgi Shvelidze, the general director of "Tsiskvili Group," and Anano Tavkhelidze, the head of marketing.
Giorgi, first of all, tell us about the history of the establishment of "Tsiskvili" and its development...
Giorgi Shvelidze:Initially, "Tsiskvili" was a restaurant for 100 guests, which was built in 2002 on Beliashvili Street. At that time, there was no transport in this area, so no one believed that in a few years it would become a complex of this scale. Originally, there was "Ethno Tsiskvili," which still maintains trust and quality, and as a result, holds an unshakable position in the market. |
Tsiskvili had a specific idea from the beginning - it should be a premium restaurant with outstanding food, service, and architecture, which the team quickly achieved with consistent work. Today, it is the largest chain of traditional Georgian restaurants in Georgia, hosting thousands of Georgian and foreign guests every day and millions of guests every year.
At the moment, the "Tsiskvili Group" owns 8 restaurants: "Ethno Tsiskvili," "Beer Square," "Wine Yard," "Tsiskvili in Mtskheta," "Tsiskvili in Vake," "Tsiskvili in Tskneti," and "Tsiskvili Terrace."
We should single out the "Theatre" of the "Tsiskvili Group," a dinner theater that represents a completely new concept not only in Georgia but also in Transcaucasia. Here, guests have the opportunity to see licensed Broadway musicals, concert evenings, Georgian cultural programs, and also hold the most diverse and memorable indoor parties.
It should be noted that the "Tsiskvili Bazari," located in Avlabari and Vake, is also a market of Georgian natural products and premium products. The "Tsiskvili Group" entered the retail sector after the pandemic and is successfully developing this direction as well.
Anyway, how does "Tsiskvili" create a synthesis of Georgian cuisine, culture, and history?
Giorgi Shvelidze: "Tsiskvili" is a museum-restaurant, the primary purpose of which is, of course, to present distinctive Georgian flavors. However, as mentioned above, the founders decided from the beginning that it should be more than a restaurant. Therefore, "Tsiskvili" not only introduces guests to Georgian heritage with dishes but also tells history through architectural language.
Every detail in architecture and design is well thought out, and each of them has its purpose. Here, the old and the modern are skillfully combined, creating a unique and, most importantly, comfortable environment.
In "Tsiskvili," you will often witness cultural events; we often hold cooking master classes, folklore, and choreographic evenings. The guests especially loved the "Festival of Georgian Corners," within the framework of which we dedicate our space to representatives of different corners and give the audience the opportunity to present their culture and cuisine.
“The synthesis of our hospitality and all this creates the unique experience that customers value most. Visitors often note that visiting the ”Tsiskvili" is somewhat equivalent to a trip to Georgia.
It is impossible not to mention the service quality of "Tsiskvili." How do you manage to maintain a high standard during this time?
Giorgi Shvelidze: The main support of the "Tsiskvili Group" is our team, which today consists of more than 750 employees. It is with them that we create a service that makes the guest feel like family.
"We strive to create an environment where guests can connect, enjoy, and create memorable memories, while employees are constantly motivated and motivated to be a part of it all."
To maintain this standard of service and hospitality, "Tsiskvili" is constantly developing new concepts, creating different dining experiences. And for the staff, it implements training and retraining programs. The joint work and efforts of our team lead to people's trust in us and the achievements that have been recognized with numerous awards at both Georgian and international competitions and awards.
Anano, regarding the rebranding, what led to the update of the visual identity?
Anano Tavkhelidze:As Giorgi mentioned, our network is growing and developing. We cherish traditions but also introduce modern elements in new spaces, dishes, and concepts. This evolution is a natural process as requirements change over time. |
"The visual aspect should also support all of this. That's why we considered it necessary to create a new visual identity to better express our values, authenticity, and excellence. The "Tsiskvili" logo has a 22-year history, and it was difficult for us to let go of it, although parting with the old is an integral part of the development process.
We collaborated with the designer and typographer Lasha Giorgadze on the new visual identity of "Tsiskvili". Through our joint efforts, we were able to create a modern logo. Every letter and detail of the logo expresses the brand's identity, strength, and tradition, and, most importantly, it is simple and memorable.
As an additional visual element, we selected a fragment of ornamental decoration from the facade of the Katskhi Cathedral and incorporated its simplified, modern version for design variety. This motif is featured in the pattern and also as a standalone element, appearing in both full and partial forms.
The history of the "Tsiskvili Group" demonstrates a continual process of development. We firmly believe that embracing innovation is essential to maintaining our position and remaining in demand. Therefore, our commitment extends beyond just opening new spaces and updating our visual identity. We will continue to progress to ensure that "Tsiskvili" is consistently synonymous with quality, trust, and innovation.
